Hightlights of Kanchanaburi province you can visit from Oriental Kwai resort
Take a Long tail boat from Oriental Kwai resort to the famous Bridge over the river Kwai. Enjoy the fantastic view over the river in a spectacular boat trip, most fun way to get to town!
Hellfire pass & Memorial museum, the best place to learn about the history in this area. Walk the 2,5 walking trail with the audio-tour where the survivor’s tell you about the moving story of Hellfire pas. You can combine a trip to Hellfire pass & memorial museum with a ride on the train starting at Nam Tok train station.
Elephant’s Sanctuary's, Elephants World or Elephants Haven; help out taking care of the elephants for a full day! You get dirty but it’s great fun, the highlight is at the end of the day when the elephants will take a bath in the river. An unforgettable experience for a good cause!
Erawan National park & waterfalls, hike up the 7-stepped waterfall! You can spend hours walking, relaxing & swimming in this beautiful green jungle environment. Since these waterfalls are very popular we do recommend going early morning to enjoy the falls when it’s still quiet.
Tham Phatat cave, this cave is 20 min drive from the Erawan falls and you pass it on your way to Huay MaeKamin waterfalls. To get to this cave you have to go 600 Meters up the mountain (forest path & steps); when you’ve reached the top a guide will take you into the cave with his torch. Inside you'll see stunning stalagmites and it’s nice & cool (nice after your trip up). Please note the last time you can walk up is latest 4 pm.
Huay Maekamin waterfalls, fantastic landscape and a destination off the beaten track, only visited by Thai! It’s quite a drive (+/-1hr 45 min.- up to 2 hrs.) but on your way driving through tiny little villages, you can enjoy the stunning views over Sri Nakarin Lake & the green mountains. Worth visiting if you look for something less touristic!
Cycling through the local villages, rental bikes are available and the resort including a map and tour though the local area (8 or 18 KM tour). Cruise through the local villages & famers areas, discover the local temples and buy a drink at one of the little shops. Most fun way to discover local Thai life!
Wat Tham Suea & Wat Ban Tham are two beautiful temples on the other side of Kanchanaburi town. Both temples are on a mountain and offer a lovely view over the river Kwai. Ban Tham temple is a huge dragon; you can walk into it's neck, the many steps lead to a cave & view point. Wat Tham Suea has a gigantic Buddha outside and has a beautiful mixed Thai Chinese style. Wat Tham Suea has a cable cart for those who don’t like lots and lots steps :).
A Kanchanaburi town tour, visit the Thai Burma railway center (the best museum in town) the war cemeteries and the Bridge over the river Kwai with a local taxi that stay’s with you during this tour, easy! Another option is to rent a bicycle in town and cruise around by yourself.
Wat Mettatham & Wat Tham Phu Wa,Wat Mettatam is Chinese temple with very impressive wood carvings. Huge wooden statues, carved ceilings and other decorations can be admired. The temple is not finished jet so feel free to stroll around the area of the temple where you can see the work in progress. Wat Tham Phu Wa is not only well known for being a meditation retreat, the temple itself features interesting architecture influenced by Khmer and Lop Buri arts as well as beautiful stalactites inside the cave where the revered Buddha images are enshrined.
Golf, Kanchanaburi has many golf courses in the area so if you are a golfer you won't be bored! Nichigo Golf, Blue Saffire Golf, Grand Prix Golf, Blue Star golf and Mida Golf are all on 20-40 min. drive from our resort. We can arrange T-times & transport for you if needed.
The Oriental Kwai resort can easily arrange local taxis to wherever you would like to go in short notice so you are free to plan your own trips. We are always there to advise you and help you plan your sightseeing. We also offer organized day tours via a local tour company from town (small group tours) and they can collect you at the resort. Bicycles and scooters are available for rent at the resort if you would like to explore the local surroundings by yourself.
